Today, we are going to learn a common American expression. But
before we find out
what it means, let’s listen to today’s conversation. Listen carefully.

I’m just having a horrible day.

본문에서 Jason이 제게 What’s going on with you? You’ve been angry
the whole day. That’s not like you so snap out of it. 무슨 일
있니? 하루 종일 화가 나있잖아. 너답지 않으니까, 기운을 내 라고 하자,
저는 I’m trying to snap out of it but I can’t! I’m just having a horrible day. 나도 기운을
내려고 하는 데, 잘 안 돼. 정말 끔찍한 하루를 보내고 있거든.” 이라고 말합니다.

Today’s phrase is snap SNAP snap, out OUT out, of OF of, it IT it. Snap out of it
snap out of it to snap out of it means to
force yourself to stop behaving in a negative way or to stop from experiencing
something, especially something unpleasant. Snap out of it은 '기운을 내' 혹은 ‘정신 좀
차려’라는 뜻입니다.
그러니까 축 처져있는 사람에게 기운을 내라고 한다던가, 쓸데없는 생각이나 몽상에 빠져있는 사람에게 정신을 차리라고 할 때
쓰는 표현이죠.
In today’s conversation Jason notices that I am very upset, which is very
unlike me. So he tells me to snap out of it.
오늘 본문에서 제가 평소와 달리 하루 종일 화가 나
있었습니다.
이를 본 Jason은 저를 보고 기운을 내라고 하네요. That’s not like you so snap out
of it. 라고요.

Now let me give you some example sentences using today’s expression. Laura, it’s time you snapped out of it.
라는 문장이 있습니다.
해석하면 Laura, 이제 기운을 낼 때야. 라는 뜻입니다.
Here is another example. Alex just can’t
seem to snap out of it. 라는 문장은, Alex가 정신을 차리지 못하는 것 같네요.
라는 뜻이 되겠죠.
